The Commission for the Protection of Privacy, better known as the Privacy Commission, is an independent authority ensuring the protection of privacy during the processing of personal data.


The Commission was established by the Belgian Federal Chamber of Representatives under the Law of 8 December 1992

  • Law of 8 December 1992 on the protection of privacy in relation to the processing of personal data (Privacy Law or Data Protection Act)
  • Royal Decree of 13 February 2001 implementing the Law of 8 December 1992 on the protection of privacy in relation to the processing of personal data

  • Directive 95/46/EC van 24 October 1995 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data
  • Convention 108 for the protection of individuals with regard to automatic processing of personal data
  • OECD Guidelines on the protection of privacy and transborder flows of personal data
