Detective control     Print

Detective controls identify undesirable events after they have occurred. Detective controls have the following two components:

  • The system should identify and record user activity, key transactions, and unusual conditions in exception and summary reports to ensure a thorough and accurate audit trail.
  • A management hierarchy should be in place to review the exception and summary reports, identify any abnormalities, and take appropriate action.
