Preventive control     Print

Preventive controls keep undesirable events from occurring. In an IS environment, preventive controls are accomplished by implementing automated procedures to prohibit unauthorized system access and to force appropriate and consistent action by users.

Examples of these preventive controls include the following:

  • Inability to close books if transactions are missing
  • Dual entry or verification of sensitive managerial transactions
  • Requirements for passwords before entering data.
